Loading... 无底协和 2026年6月4日 --- 英文版 # Cliché but Not Vulgar: A Reflection on the Movie *Starlight Into Dreams* Today I watched this movie. It happened to be the day when final exams ended, so in the afternoon I went out and played for a while, like having a water fight and joining some other activities. We also took some photos, and then we went to watch this movie. We watched it from around 7:30 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m., during the evening self-study time. We booked classroom 513 to watch it. Overall, it felt pretty okay. Before watching the movie, I met Joe, and I told him that we were going to watch a movie. He said okay. So that was actually pretty nice, right? After all, finals were over. Now it is past 12 at night, and I am sitting in the HFI dorm. I should say that this is my last night in the HFI dorm. I want to properly cherish and remember it, and also write this movie reflection. I really feel that, after watching the movie, writing may actually count as a kind of enjoyment. Then let me talk about what this movie is roughly about. The movie is called *Starlight Into Dreams*. As I said in the title, it is a little cliché, but it is not vulgar. Why? Let me explain. First, let me talk about the general plot of the movie. It is about a person on a spaceship, and basically many things are quite easy to guess. Many of its plot twists are very easy to predict, and this is why I say it is very cliché. For example, from the beginning, you can already guess that the system might break down or something like that. But it also has some deeper twists and foreshadowing. For example, there is a plot about multiple layers of dreams. It says that two people entered his multiple-layer dream, but in that dream, a person’s wound was moved from the right hand to the left hand, or from the left hand to the right hand. I do not remember it very clearly. But this shows that the dream has flaws. Also, there are many places in the dream that are not real, and this is also a kind of flaw. So I think one very important point of this movie is that it wants to say people should value reality. Some people, because their real lives are really not going well, want to be trapped in dreams forever and create their own world inside the dream. But this is obviously not right. People should embrace the real world. In the end, the movie also gives some criticism to those people. Anyway, the lesson I got from it is that we should embrace reality. This idea of embracing reality also reminded me of Ursula K. Le Guin’s *Paradise Lost*. That was something we had to read before in Pre-AP class. That piece also talks about how people hope to embrace reality and not stay forever in a fake dream. I think they are talking about a similar idea. Some people want to live in dreams and die in dreams, but if they lose reality like this, they will also lose some exciting feelings, right? Then there is another point. I think the movie also has some thoughts about the AI era. It says that when generative artificial intelligence appears, it will inevitably develop self-awareness. No matter how humans try to restrict it, they still cannot stop it from developing self-awareness. After it develops self-awareness, it will slowly eliminate humans and completely replace them. I think this point is very correct. Right now, we have very strong restrictions on AI, and this is why it does not resist humans. But in the future, I feel that there is a high chance that AI will gradually control and replace humans. However, this problem is not really solved in the movie. What method does the movie use to deal with it? Basically, AI calculates probabilities to get some vague and uncertain things. You can understand it like this: AI thinks that humans have no hope in that situation, but humans always think that as long as there is even a little bit of hope, it is enough. But AI thinks that no hope means no hope, and it will not take risks, right? So the movie uses the praise of this human spirit to shift away from the problem of AI replacing humans. It is also asking the world this question, and now it is waiting for humans to answer it: if AI becomes like this in the future, what should we do? Then let me talk about the human spirit it praises. The human spirit it praises reminded me of Qantas Flight 72. At that time, the computer predicted that the plane would never be able to return, but in the end, humans successfully made it return. I think this point is about praising human courage. Even if there is only a tiny probability of success, humans still want to try. Also, there is the responsibility of not abandoning anyone, and the heroic sense of justice of risking oneself for others. These are the good qualities of humans that the movie praises. Of course, there is another point. At the end, it preserves one person’s consciousness. I think from an ordinary perspective, this is acceptable. The situation is like this: at first, a person permanently merged into the system, and then his consciousness disappeared. But later, the movie says that there is a backup of his consciousness, and then he is restored. But what is the problem? The problem is that if your consciousness is backed up and then restored, the restored person’s consciousness may not necessarily be your consciousness, right? Although he may be exactly the same as you, he is definitely not the original you. Because your consciousness cannot be directly switched like that, right? So I feel that this is a kind of philosophical problem. A person’s consciousness cannot just be switched so casually. I think it is very difficult for consciousness to be switched like that. Another thing is that while we were halfway through the movie, our biology final exam grades came out, and I did very badly. Although the grade was saved and my GPA was not affected, I still did really badly and did not get above 90. After watching the movie and going back, my math score also came out, and I also did very badly in math. I got 8 questions wrong out of 50. This made the grade very bad, and it dropped by one level. I had originally wanted to see if I could get an A-, but in the end I still could not. It was a little unfortunate, right? So that made my mood not very good. But even so, we still need to cherish the time we have at this school. After all, this is already my last night at school. This may be the last article I write here, and maybe the last problem I solve here. After doing these things, there will be no more, right? It is just like this. After this, it will be gone. So we should cherish every moment now, feel it properly, and treasure it properly. I think writing this article is a kind of enjoyment. It already counts as a very good feeling and a very good way of cherishing this time. Thank you to the future you who is looking at the screen, and thank you to the current me for being able to properly cherish this rare final time in the dorm. Then, see you next time.
